Tunisia: Sonia Dahmani Sentenced to Additional Two Years as State’s Repression of Dissent Intensifies

October 24, 2024 - Tunisia, Tunis

Political commentator Sonia Dahmani sentenced to an additional 2 years in prison for "spreading false news" regarding remarks she made about racism against sub-Saharan Africans.

She is currently serving 8 months for criticizing living conditions and immigration, this is yet another blatant attack on press freedom. Her case illustrates the ongoing repression under President Kais Saied, who has intensified efforts to silence dissent.

Women Press Freedom condemns this continued persecution and demands Dahmani's immediate and unconditional release.
