United States: Long-Awaited Charges in Dangerous Assault on NYT Reporter Erin Schaff During Capitol Insurrection

September 12, 2024 - United States, Washington D.C

Phillip and David Walker were arrested for assaulting New York Times reporter Erin Schaff during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

The brothers threw the photographer to the ground, stole her camera, and broke her equipment. Schaff feared for her life as bystanders ignored her.

The men have been charged with forcibly taking an item and assault with intent to commit a felony.

Women Press Freedom welcomes the arrests but is disappointed by the delay. Swift convictions are needed — attacks on journalists must not go unpunished.
