Kosovo: Women Press Freedom Condemns Arson Attack on Nevenka Medić's Car

October 13, 2024 - Kosovo, North Mitrovica

Women Press Freedom strongly condemns the vandalization of Nevenka Medić's car, the director of the Kossev portal, which occurred over the weekend in downtown North Mitrovica.

The vehicle was parked in front of the building where the Kossev director resides and sustained visible damage, likely inflicted by a flammable substance. Medić promptly reported the incident to the Kosovo Police, who initiated an investigation.

This is not the first instance of such an incident. In 2015, Medić's private car, also utilized for editorial purposes, was maliciously set ablaze in the same street and approximately the same location. Unfortunately, the perpetrators have remained unprosecuted to this day due to unsuccessful investigative efforts.

We urge swift and thorough action by Kosovo authorities to investigate the incident and ensure accountability for those responsible. The protection of journalists is paramount, and decisive measures are essential to prevent further threats to the media community in Kosovo.
