Czechia: Sabina Slonková Targeted Again—Break-In, Threats, and Attempt to Track Child’s Location

February 6, 2025 - Czechia, Prague

Investigative journalist and editor-in-chief of Neovlivní, Sabina Slonková, and her family placed under police protection due to serious threats.

Threats escalated in December 2024, when a man broke into the property near her home, scared her children, and later tried to track her child’s location via a mobile app. Slonková also received threatening emails.

The perpetrator was caught weeks later. He had a criminal record and was unable to explain his actions. Reports indicate he claimed he wanted to “collaborate” with Slonková—raising further concerns.

Slonková has long faced threats. In 2002, four people were charged with plotting her assassination. Slonková survived the plot—but threats against her have continued.

Women Press Freedom vehemently condemns these terrifying threats and harassment targeting Slonková and her family. We commend the police for their swift response and for placing her under protection. Czech authorities must ensure that journalists can work without fear of violence, harassment, or attacks against their families.
