Croatia: EFJ President Maja Sever Faces Hate Campaign After Leaving X

November 26, 2024 - Croatia

Women Press Freedom stands in full solidarity with European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) President Maja Sever, a vocal and tireless advocate for press freedom and women journalists.

After announcing that EFJ would no longer be posting on X, Maja faced an onslaught of threats and misogynistic insults. No leader or journalist should be subjected to such hate for doing their job or for making a personal decision to leave a platform.

The failure of X to address the rampant hate on its site is making it increasingly hostile and unsafe, particularly for women and minorities. EFJ’s decision to stop posting on X is completely understandable.

We will continue to support Maja and the vital work of EFJ on other platforms and encourage others to do the same.
