China: Women Press Freedom Raises Alarm Over Missing Journalist Zhang Zhan, Demands Answers from Chinese Authorities

August 30, 2024 - China, Shanghai

Women Press Freedom is deeply concerned for journalist Zhang Zhan’s safety, as she hasn’t been heard from in 2 days.

Sources on the ground indicate she was taken by police while visiting her hometown and transferred to Shanghai. Since her May release after four years in prison, she has faced heavy surveillance.

We condemn this continued persecution and demand answers from Chinese authorities.
