Slovakia: Women Press Freedom Condemns Violent Assault on Kristína Kövešová During Investigation of Violent Crimes

October 30, 2024 - Slovakia, Bratislava

Women Press Freedom strongly condemns the violent assault on TV Markíza journalist Kristína Kövešová in Trnava while she was investigating violent crimes for her program Reflex. Kövešová sustained serious injuries, including a broken nose, concussion, and spinal injury, and is currently hospitalized. This targeted attack occurred in the context of her broader investigation into a series of violent incidents—primarily against women and the elderly— which she has been reporting on for weeks. Video footage shared by the journalist on social media shows a group of individuals rushing toward her, shouting aggressively, and a man violently grabbing her.

The attackers appear to be connected to the very criminal activities Kövešová was investigating. We demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible and extend our wishes to Kristína for a swift recovery.
