United States: CFWIJ Condemns The Online Racist And Sexist Attacks On Seung Min Kim
Washington Post correspondent Seung Min Kim was subjected to racist and sexist attacks. The hateful attacks against the journalist were followed by a picture of her with senator Lisa Murkowski. The journalist inquired Murkowski about an old tweet of Neera Tanden, a nominee for director office. As Murkowski was unaware of the tweet, Kim showed it on her phone and included the senators' reaction in her story. Kim did exactly what any reporter should have done i.e, present the information if the subject is unaware of it. CFWIJ stands in solidarity with Kim and condemns the racist and sexist attacks on the journalist.
United States: CFWIJ Condemns The Arrest And Trial Of Andrea Sahouri Demands She Be Released Immediately.
Andrea Sahouri was arrested ìn May 2020 while covering a Black Lives Matter protest. Her trial is scheduled to take place next month. Despite her employer publication registering a protest, and terming this repression of the press, the charges against her have not been culled.
Mexico: Assassinated Journalist, Regina Martinez, Honored With The Polk Special Award.
The George Polk Awards this year decided to honour Regina Martinez with the Polk Special Award. Regina Martinez, a crime reporter, was assassinated in her home in 2012. The investigation into her murder was riddled with irregularities, causing outrage in the journalist communities across the globe.
India: CFWIJ Condemns The Hateful Video Against Prominent Indian Journalists
A threatening and hateful video was posted on a YouTube channel on February 11, asking for the hanging of some notable journalists in India. The video was viewed by almost half a million people before it was taken down for violating YouTube’s policy on hate speech. The video accused journalists critical of government policies of having vested interests and financial incentives. The claims in the video were unsubstantiated, yet it was endorsed by many right-wing politicians. CFWIJ condemns the pervasive threats to press freedom in India and asks the regulatory authorities to curb such attacks and hold the perpetrators accountable.
India: CFWIJ Condemns Ias Officer Prashant Nair’s Misconduct Towards Journalist KP Pravitha
KP Pravitha, a correspondent for Mathrubhumi, a Malayalam daily newspaper, was subjected to inappropriate texts from IAS officer Prashant Nair. KP reached out to Prashant through WhatsApp for information regarding a story on Monday, February 22. Prashant Nair replied to the journalist with obscene images and insults. CFWIJ condemns the officer’s misconduct and stands in solidarity with KP Pravitha. We urge the Kerala government authorities to investigate the matter and hold Mr. Prashant Nair accountable for his unprofessional behavior.
Malta: CFWIJ Welcomes The Conviction Of Daphne Caruana Galizia's Murderer.
One of the three people accused of Daphne Caruana Galizia's murder pled guilty yesterday. He was swiftly sentenced to fifteen years in prison. His conviction was reportedly lenient because of his cooperation with the security forces involved with the investigation of high-profile cases.

Kanun Hükmünde Kararname ile (KHK) kapatılan Özgür Gündem gazetesi editörü Reyhan Çapan ve gazete yazarlarının yargılandığı davanın 19. duruşması bugün İstanbul 13. Ağır Ceza Mahkemesi'nde görüldü. Mahkeme, sanıklar hakkında ifadelerinin alınmasına yönelik çıkarılan yakalama kararının infazının beklemeye karar verdi. Bir sonraki duruşma 22 Haziran 2021’de görülecek. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak sürekli ertelenen davalarla gazetecilerin yıldırılmaya ve sindirilmeye çalışılmasını kınıyor, Çapan ve diğer gazetecilerin beraatını talep ediyoruz.
Turkey: CFWIJ Demands Journalist Reyhan Çapan’s Acquittal Immediately
19th hearing of the trial against former Özgür Gündem editor, Reyhan Çapan, and her colleagues were held today at the İstanbul 13th High Criminal Court. The hearing was postponed once again after the court ruled to wait for the execution of arrest warrants issued for defendants and ordered their initial testimonies to be taken. The trial was adjourned until June 22, 2021. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) considers constant postponement of the trials against journalists is a new method to intimidate them. We demand the charges on Reyhan and all other journalists be dismissed immediately.
Pakistan: CFWIJ Condemns The Verbal Harassment Against Ailia Zehra
Journalist and managing editor for “NayaDaur Media'', Ailia Zahra endured misogynistic and sexist remarks from infamous Pakistani writer Khalil ur Rehman Qamar. Alia was invited as a panelist in a T.V. show on Saturday, February 20. During the discussion, Mr. Khalil ur Rehman started yelling at the journalist. When he was countered for his tone, the writer put down his mike and left the live show. Reportedly he also labeled Ailia, a RAW agent while leaving the premises. The incident was followed by a vicious online campaign with threats and abuse against the journalist. CFWIJ condemns the writer’s sick behaviour and urges press regulation bodies in the country to take substantial steps to bar him from T.V appearances.

Dünya Gazetesi bölge temsilcisi Recep Şenyurt’un bir yıl boyunca gazete bünyesinde çalışan kadın çalışanları defalarca sözlü olarak taciz ettiği öğrenildi. Ortaya çıkan taciz vakalarının ardından önce gazeteye sonra da taciz beyanında bulunan kadın gazeteciye manevi tazminat davası açan Şenyurt’un başvurusu mahkemece reddedildi. Gazetecilikte Kadın Koalisyonu (CFWIJ) olarak mahkeme kararını memnuniyetle karşılıyoruz. Erkek egemenliğin ve eril dilin hükmettiği medya kuruluşlarını sağduyuya ve kadın meslektaşlarına saygı duymaya çağırıyoruz.
Turkey: CFWIJ Welcomes Dismissal Of The Defamation Case Against Journalists Who Suffered Verbal Abuse
Dünya Newspaper regional representative Recep Şenyurt verbally harassed his female colleagues for a year. Resigning after his abuse, Şenyurt also disgracefully sued for defamation case against the female journalist who revealed the incident. The court dismissed the case against the woman journalist. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ), welcomes the court decision. We call on media outlets which are ruled by male domination to respect their female colleagues. Women journalists exist. They will continue to do their job.

Halkevleri Derneği’nin 89’uncu yıl dönümünde bu yıl dokuz kadın gazeteci yıl içerisinde yaptıkları haberlerle “Halkın Hakları Basın, Sanat ve Dayanışma Ödülleri”ne layık görüldü. Turkey: CFWIJ Congratulates Nine Women Journalists Awarded To Peoples’ Houses Press Awards
On the 89th anniversary of the Peoples’ Houses, this year, nine women journalists were awarded the "Peoples’ Rights Press, Art and Solidarity Awards" over their stories they revealed about truth. The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) appreciates Peoples’ Houses for the value they show to the women journalists. We congratulate the journalists who chase the truth.
India: CFWIJ Condemns The Police Intimidation Of Journalist Barkha Dutt
The Unnao police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against The MOJO story news portal run by senior Indian journalist Barkha Dutt. The FIR names seven other Twitter handles for deliberately spreading misinformation over the case. Barkha has termed the police action against her as “brazen harassment and bullying”, and she is ready to fight the charges in court. CFWIJ offers its full support and solidarity to the journalist. We urge the Unnao police department to drop the baseless claims against Barkha.

Gazeteci Canan Coşkun’un yargılandığı davanın dördüncü duruşması bugün görüldü. Coşkun’a yönelik “terörle mücadelede görev almış kişileri terör örgütlerine hedef göstermek” suçlamasıyla görülen dava mahkemenin mağdur polis memuruna ilişkin Çevik Kuvvet’e yazılan müzekkerenin sonucunun sorulmasına karar verdi. Bir sonraki duruşma 8 Haziran’da görülecek.
