Location: Syria, Idlib
Date: November 21, 2020
Available in: 🇸🇦 عربي

Family of journalist Nour Al- Shalo is skeptical about the fate of Noor because of news circulating that Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham intended to execute the journalist. The Coalition For Women In Journalism is horrified by this news and calls for the immediate release of the journalist.

Journalist Nour was arrested in September over allegations of collaborating with international organizations by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham. The journalist was arrested from the courthouse and moved to an undisclosed location, two months ago. Neither her family or her lawyer had access to her. The allegations against Noor were claimed by the Family of her belated husband whom she is fighting over custody of her children.

Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham claimed that Noor is involved in criminal and ethical cases and many other issues pending interrogation. Noor’s mother stated to the press that “she is concerned about her daughter’s destiny as she received news about Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham's intention to execute her. The news urged Noor’s family and friends to launch a social media campaign calling for her release.

Noor used to work for several media outlets and human rights organizations and has been focusing on women empowerment and gender issues.

The Coalition For Women In Journalism is horrified by this news and urges Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham to release the journalist immediately. This case reflects the dire reality of women journalists and the extent of threats they encounter while doing their duties.
