Kosovo: Qliresa Hasani Targeted with Sexist Remarks While Covering Protest

November 13, 2024 - Kosovo, Ferizaj

Women Press Freedom strongly condemns the obstruction of duty and sexist harassment faced by journalist Qliresa Hasani of TV Festina in Ferizaj. The incident occurred during her coverage of a residents’ protest in front of the headquarters of KEDS, Kosovo’s electricity distribution company.

Hasani was prevented from reporting and subjected to sexist remarks by a KEDS official who stated: “It is not allowed to film the object of the institution unless you want to take a picture with me.” This inappropriate comment undermines the journalist’s professional and personal dignity, constituting a gender-based attack and interference in her work.

Women Press Freedom calls on KEDS to take immediate disciplinary measures against the official involved and urges security and judicial institutions to ensure the protection of journalists from intimidation and discrimination.
