Gaza: Israeli Airstrike Kills Wafa Aludaini and Her Family
September 30, 2024 - Gaza, Deir Al-Balah
Israeli airstrike in central Gaza kills journalist Wafa Aludaini, her husband, and two children. Wafa fearlessly reported on Gaza’s struggles and mentored young journalists, amplifying the voices of Palestinian people.
During her career, Aludaini witnessed the devastation of several wars and endured the Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza. Among the tragedies she experienced was the destruction of her family’s and in-laws' homes during the 2014 war, known as Operation Protective Edge. Despite personal loss, she continued her reporting, determined to shed light on the harsh realities faced by Palestinians under occupation.
Wafa Aludaini’s unique perspective as both a journalist and a refugee gave her work deep personal resonance. In an interview conducted in 2020, Aludaini shared, “Being a journalist in Gaza is not easy because every single day, you are subjected to the possibility of being killed, injured, or arrested by Israeli occupation forces.”
Her voice for truth and justice will be deeply missed.
Women Press Freedom vehemently condemns Israel's continued bombardment of Gaza and demands an immediate ceasefire.
