What women journalists say about CFWIJ
-
"I recommend CFWIJ because women are often targeted and our work on the ground seems to be less important than a man's or at least people seem to question more when the source is a woman and not a man."
María Ximena Borrazás Cataldo, Freelance Photojournalist and Videographer
-
“I don’t recall any organization or non-profit that is solely focused on the risks and dangers that female journalists face doing their job before CFWIJ.”
Bukalo Adebayo, West Africa correspondent, Thomson Reuters Foundation
-
“I could have been imprisoned again, maybe even tortured I’m sure, if CFWIJ did not help me come to safety. Thank you for saving my life.”
S.M., Iranian journalist in exile. Relocated by CFWIJ
-
“I think CFWIJ is an important voice which voices very serious concerns and issues related to the violation of rights of journalists and media outlets in countries like Georgia and it is important to keep such voices, especially as they keep focus on the challenges women journalists are facing in vulnerable democracies where rights are restricted.”
Mariam Nikuradze, Cofounder and Director of OC Media
-
"The mentorship from CFWIJ and access to a powerful network that defends the rights and safety of women in journalism have been very important to me. CFWIJ has been the point of balance and support that I have needed to manage the legal actions to protect myself and my emotional state."
Emilia Şercan, Investigative Journalist and Assistant Professor at the University of Bucharest
-
"I am very grateful for the invaluable support extended by CFWIJ and the impact the organization has had in shedding light on our cause. The dedicated efforts of CFWIJ have significantly amplified awareness around the issue of SLAPPs targeting KRIK and its journalists, bringing much-needed attention to the challenges we face."
Bojana Pavlović, Reporter at KRIK

"CFWIJ provided crucial support when I faced harassment and baseless accusations in Pakistan during a fake campaign aimed at instilling fear and endangering my life. CFWIJ stood by me during that challenging time and continued to cover my legal battle in Kenya against the GSU and Kenyan police for the wrongful death of my husband, Arshad Sharif."
Javeria Siddique, Journalist
-
"Being made redundant was a huge disappointment but I’m grateful for the solidarity and support that the CFWIJ has shown me. With major cutbacks and layoffs within the media industry, CFWIJ’s work has been vital in tracking the impact that this is having on journalists and independent media."
Anita Mureithi, Freelance Journalist

"I was unjustly detained due to my investigative reporting on corruption within the health sector during the Covid-19 pandemic. CFWIJ intervened with remarkable dedication. They closely monitored my case, leveraging international attention and advocacy to pressure Bangladeshi authorities. Their steadfast support not only highlighted my plight but also underscored the global imperative of press freedom and the protection of journalists.
